The project aims to assess the efficacy of SMS reminders using Virtual Health Connect (VHC) in improving parental compliance to children’s immunization schedules in a low-income setting; and to determine parental satisfaction about the SMS reminder program. A randomized controlled trial with convenience cluster-based sampling was conducted at four pre-selected public health clinics in the district of Kota Bharu in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. The compliance to vaccination of the children in the intervention group was 97.6% (n = 122) versus 94.6% (n = 141) in the control group. Although not statistically significant, the difference in compliance between the intervention and control groups may be clinically significant as even a small enhancement in vaccination compliance in the community may lead to a great impact on the population as a whole.
