World Food Facts

  • The data is taken from the Kaggle website.

  • The data contains nutrition facts from different foo sources.

  • The 10 more represented countries in the data (Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States) are chosen and a detailed analysis is performed.

  • The code used to clean the data and perform the analysis can be found here

  • The first figure plots the total energy by country.

  • The second figure is the map of the world colour-coded by the number of entries in the dataset

  • The third figure is the map of the world colour-coded by the average intake of sugar.

  • The fourth figure plots the total sugar by total energy according to country.

  • The fifth figure plots the 10 food categories with highest sugar content.

Results

  • France is the country with the highest numer of entry in the dataset. Australia and the Unites States have similar number of entries; however, the average intake of sugar seems higher in the United States than in Australia.

  • There is a positive relationship betwenn total intake of sugar and total energy intake (as expected)

  • The main sources of sugar are snacks and plant based food and beverages
