Description: The map shows those power plants in Germany which are fired by brown coal (lignite) as primary energy source. This map is part of week 2 assignment for the online Course ‘Developing Data Products’ offered by John Hopkins University at Coursera.
Comments: I had to select a subsetting of the original data set containing all German power plants since rendering too many pins on the map seemed to be problematic. The original dataset does not contain geographical coordinates. I used the ggmap library in R to look up longitude and latitude for the cities given as locations for the power plants. As a consequence the pins or markers are not the exact location of the individual power plant if you zoom in.
