As you know, filmmakers shoot a lot of content during production. Then, during an important aspect of post-production editing, the filmmaker cuts low-quality content.
We are interested in how filmmakers seek a sweet spot between two editing errors:
Undercutting: keeping low-quality content (e.g., scenes, characters, storylines) that is boring, repetitive, does not move the story along, etc.
Overcutting: cutting high-quality content (e.g., scenes, characters, or storylines) that is engaging, novel, moves the story along, etc.
