Income Inequality and CVD Risk Factors: Descriptives

Project

We aim to examine the relation of neighborhood-level income inequality with psychosocial and biomedical risk factors of CVD within a racially and socioeconomically diverse cohort of adults in Baltimore, Maryland.

Psychosocial risk factors include: depressive symptoms, anger, anxiety, and perceived stress.

Biomedical risk factors include: hypertension (or blood pressure), hypercholesterolemia (as measured by cholesterol ratio or cholesterol levels), diabetes (or hemoglobin A1C), and obesity (body mass index).

Covariates include: age, sex, race, and median neighborhood income. (I also plan on adding the below medical clusters, medications and substance use)

The interaction of neighborhood-level income inequality and individual income will also be examined to investigate whether individual-level income level (or poverty status) moderates the relation between neighborhood-level income inequality and CVD risk factors.
