# The Zika virus , the mosquito-bite transmitted disease will jeopardize the brain development of baby in the infected mothers’ womb. It has potentially been linked to babies being born birth defects, among them being microcephaly, where the baby is born with a small head. The virus is transmitted through mosquitoes who act as carriers and infect by biting humans.
# The virus is transmittable by blood as well as sexual contact. There is currently no known vaccine
#
# Until March 6th, 2016, no case was locally acquired. All of the reported cases were travel related. However, certain precautions will have to be taken to ensure the virus does not spread to the United States during the summer of 2016.
