The Shiny App is developed as a project for the Developing Data Product course in the Data Science MOOC offered by John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. You can test the Shiny App at https://lsa01415.shinyapps.io/DiabetesRiskScoreAndBMI/ .
The Shiny App contains three tabs
The Shiny App calculates the risk score for diabetes (type-2).
User needs to provide some information that will be used to determine the percentage of risk score. This includes the age, sex, weight, height, wether on hypertension medication, if any family members are diabetic, etc.
In addition the App will also calculates the Body Mass Index (BMI) and its classification.
The Diabetes Risk Score (Type 2) calculation is taken from Medscape http://reference.medscape.com/calculator/diabetes-risk-score-type-2
The formula used to calculate the diabetes risk score is as follows:
Terms = 6.322 - Sex - RxHTN - RxSteroids - (0.063 * Age)-BMI - FMH - Smoker
Risk = 100/(1 + e\( Terms \))
The second tab in the Shiny App shows the table of data from the Malaysia National Diabetes Registry Vol. 2009-2012
The following plot shows the number of diabetes patients in the various states in Malaysia.
