Geographic Distribution of Species

We plot all stems for all species (in decreasing order of prevalance) that existed in 2008 where the size of the point is proportional to the base area of the tree.

High Biomass Species

In order to limit the number visualizations, we limit consideration to species with large “biomass” in the study region, and not species with high frequency of stems.

Dead Oaks

Between 2003 and 2008, there were 84 stems from oak-specied canopy trees that died. Within a distance of 10 meters of one of these 84 stems, there were in:

• 2003 2750 stems from other trees.
• 2008 2674 stems from other trees

We plot

• the 84 stems from oak-specied canopy trees that died between 2003 and 2008 in red
• the position and base area of the other nearby stems in black in a zoomed-in map of the region. Note we are not distinguishing between species for now. While not apparent at first glance, there are definite changes in the base area for many stems:
