Overview

Knowledge Sharing

  • Knowledge sharing intention is influenced by one’s structural position in the group and perception to the other peer.

Cross-Cultural Context

  • In different cultural backgrounds, one’s perception of the other is often recognized and interpreted differently because perception forming process represents a culturally structured social norm that is grounded in language, attitude and belief.

Social Capital

  • In a social boundary, organization members’ repeat interactions and relationships, and that stimulate trust and norms. Social capital is formed from this process as a structural function that is increasing mutual benefit (Putnam, 1995).

Research Problem

  • In a cross cultural workplace setting, organization members often suffers unnecessary mistakes or lack of work involvement issue due to the lack of proper knowledge sharing.

  • Heterogeneity of knowledge sharing motif is problematic when those group members mixed in a group without proper awareness of cultural diversity, or when a decision maker deal with communication and productivity under the joint project with other group who has difference cultural background and knowledge sharing motif.

  • Having a proper understanding of network motif in knowledge sharing will be beneficial to encourage knowledge exchange and information flow between organization members

Research Question

  • what are structural characteristics of the knowledge sharing in Korean and United States knowledge intensive work groups?
  • how can the concept of social capital be used to examine or grow the knowledge sharing network in both countries work groups?
  • what is the process of knowledge sharing network formation and which factors are influential toward that process?
  • how do they interpret knowledge sharing behavior in each cultural context?
  • how does their interpretation of knowledge sharing in different cultural context relate to their knowledge sharing network?

Purpose of Study

  • This study aims to reveal how knowledge-sharing network is formed under the different cultural setting.
