Functions

1- Create a function named calculate_area_of_circle that takes one parameter, radius, representing the radius of a circle. The function should calculate and return the area using the formula:

area = đťś‹ Ă— radius^2

Test your function with at least two different radii and print the results.

# Creating calculate_area_of_circle and performing the function
calculate_area_of_circle <- function(radius) {
  # formula
  pi * radius^2
}

# storing 3 values in radius
radius <- c(4, 6, 8)

# using for loop to find the area
for (r in radius) {
  area <- calculate_area_of_circle(r)
  cat("Radius:", r, "- Area:", area, "\n")
}
## Radius: 4 - Area: 50.26548
## Radius: 6 - Area: 113.0973
## Radius: 8 - Area: 201.0619

2- Write a function called check_temperature that takes a single numeric input temp.

If temp > 30, print “Hot”

If temp >= 15 & temp <= 30, print “Warm”

Otherwise, print “Cold”

Test the function on three different values (e.g., 10, 20, 35).

# Creating check_temperatures and performing the function
check_temperature <- function(temp) {
  # using if, elseif and else to solve the problem
  if(temp > 30) {
    print("Hot")
  } else if(temp >= 15 & temp <= 30) {
    print("Warm")
  } else {
    print("Cold")
  }
}

# using for loop to easily find results for the 3 numbers
for (t in c(31, 20, 12)) {
  check_temperature(t)
}
## [1] "Hot"
## [1] "Warm"
## [1] "Cold"

3- Write a function named sum_odd_numbers that uses a for loop to calculate the sum of all even numbers from 1 to n. The function should return the total sum.

Test the function with n = 9 and n = 39.

# Creating sum_odd_numbers and performing the function
sum_odd_numbers <- function(n) {
  sum <- 0
  # using for loop
  for (i in 1:n) {
    # formula
    if (i %% 2 == 0) {
      # adding the value and storing in sum
      sum <- sum + i
    }
  }
  return(sum)
}

# finding the result
print(sum_odd_numbers(9))
## [1] 20
print(sum_odd_numbers(39))
## [1] 380

EDA

For this section, use the built-in mtcars dataset (instead of airquality). Perform the following:

Ask a simple question that can be answered with a basic function (e.g., What is the mean miles per gallon (mpg) across all cars?). Write the code and output the answer.

data(mtcars)
