What parents would like to change at their kindergarten

Three views of the Duisburg mini-survey

Parents could name up to three things they would change at their child’s kindergarten, in order of importance. The charts show the topics found in their answers. The charts are in German.

Survey and data

The mini-survey ran from 28 April to 12 May 2026. It is called Wave 2 in the study’s brief. This analysis uses 751 completed interviews. Of these, 633 parents gave at least one text answer that passed the existing cleaning rules.

There were 633 usable answers to the first priority, 443 to the second and 248 to the third. The full export has 857 records. This analysis follows the existing rule of keeping completion code 31. It excludes 27 records with code 32 and 79 with code 22.

A Topics mentioned in any of the three answers

Each parent counts once per topic, even if they mention it more than once. The percentages use all 633 parents with at least one usable text answer.

B Topics mentioned as the first priority

This chart uses only the answer marked most important. The percentages use the 633 parents with a usable first-priority answer.

C Topics by priority

This chart compares the three answer positions. Each column uses its own number of answers: 633, 443 and 248. The groups are not identical, because fewer parents gave a second or third answer.

How to read the results

One answer can contain several topics. The percentages can therefore add up to more than 100%.

The topics come from the existing automated keyword coding. This includes a second keyword pass called llm_fallback in the source code. The coding has not been checked by hand for this report.

Answers with no clear topic are not shown as a topic in the charts. They remain in the percentage base. This applies to 66 parents in at least one answer and 22 first-priority answers. Some of these parents also gave answers with a clear topic.

The existing cleaning rules remove blank answers and some answers such as “nothing”. These charts do not show the full share of parents who want no changes.

Taking part was voluntary. The results describe the parents who answered this mini-survey. They do not represent all parents in Duisburg.

The report contains only totals. It contains no individual answers, names, contact details or participant IDs.
