Essay:
The hate crimes data set is very interesting due to the implications of the data. The dataset reveals how different counties have different bias types and very different rates of hate crimes. Data such as this can allow analysts to identify areas that need more effort for protection as well as what type of bias a region has, which can reveal what underlying issues lay there and try to put effort in finding out how hate can be diminished against certain groups for that area. However, this dataset can also be very misleading, as this data specifically comes up from reported incidents to the police department, and thus leaves it uncertain as to what goes on unreported. People may simply not report incidents due to a variety of reasons such as fear, language barriers, or possible mistrust in the police. Hypothetically, I could study more into the demographics of each of the counties vs the main hate crime bias to see if there is any correlation between certain groups having higher incident rates against other groups. I could also study the effect of time, as populations of certain groups change over time and thus could influence the data.
