US Unemployment & Personal Savings

  1. Data spans from 1950 - 2015. Data for 2015 is for partial year thru June.
  2. Examine the relationship between unemployment rate and individual income and savings in the US.
  3. Correlation between individual disposable income and personal savings rate is 83.2% over 65 years, as seen in Figure - 1.
  4. Over the period of analysis, personal savings rate has fallen while the unemployment rate has fluctuated in a cyclical manner - Figure - 2.
