Senior Business Analytics student
The University of Texas at San Antonio
Expected graduation: December 2026

A Short Introduction

I am originally from the Rio Grande Valley and moved to San Antonio to continue my education. I am now a senior studying Business Analytics at The University of Texas at San Antonio. I work while finishing my degree, so most of my time is split between school, my job, and building skills that can help me begin a career in analytics.

I am especially interested in using data to improve everyday business decisions. Topics such as product availability, demand forecasting, labor planning, order accuracy, and customer service interest me because small improvements in these areas can make a noticeable difference for both a company and its customers. Outside of school and work, I enjoy lifting, running, spending time with the people close to me, and hanging out with my long-haired dachshund, Fredo.

Academic Background

My coursework at UTSA has helped me connect business concepts with practical analysis. I have studied subjects including statistics, marketing research, operations management, finance, data mining, and data visualization. These courses have taught me that analysis is most useful when it leads to a clear recommendation instead of only producing numbers.

Through class projects, I have practiced organizing data, testing relationships, creating visual reports, and explaining results in a way that a business decision-maker can understand. My academic goal is to continue improving both my technical skills and my ability to communicate what the results mean.

Professional Background

I currently work for H-E-B as an eStore Shopper in Curbside. My responsibilities include selecting products for online orders, checking freshness and quality, following customer instructions, handling substitutions, staging completed orders, and helping deliver orders to customers. The position requires accuracy, time management, teamwork, and attention to the customer experience.

Working in Curbside has also shown me how closely operations and data are connected. Inventory levels, customer demand, staffing, pick speed, and product substitutions all affect whether an order is completed successfully. This experience is one reason I am interested in eventually working in an analytics role that supports retail operations or eCommerce.

Before H-E-B, I worked as a shift supervisor at Starbucks. In that role, I helped lead shifts, delegated tasks, supported team members during busy periods, and completed closing responsibilities. That experience strengthened my communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Experience with R and Data Mining

I am still developing my experience with R, but I have practiced working with variables, vectors, data frames, summary statistics, basic visualizations, and R Markdown reports. One of my main goals in this course is to become more comfortable using R to clean data, identify patterns, and present results in a professional format.

My data-mining coursework has introduced me to several common methods, including:

  • Linear and logistic regression
  • Decision trees
  • Support vector machines
  • K-means clustering
  • Model evaluation using measures such as accuracy, RMSE, and R-squared

I understand that choosing a model is only part of the process. The results also have to be interpreted carefully and connected to the original business question.

Experience with Other Analytic Software

In addition to R, I have used several other programs in my coursework:

  • Microsoft Excel: formulas, financial analysis, charts, data organization, and dashboards
  • SAS Enterprise Guide: importing data, hypothesis testing, ANOVA, linear regression, and logistic regression
  • Tableau: interactive dashboards, filters, maps, time-series analysis, and data visualization
  • Qualtrics: creating surveys and collecting research data

Using different programs has helped me understand that each tool has its own strengths. I want to keep improving my ability to select the right tool based on the problem and the audience.

Career Goals

After graduation, I would like to move into an internship or entry-level analytics position, ideally within H-E-B. I am most interested in supporting operations or eCommerce through areas such as demand forecasting, inventory planning, labor planning, product availability, and order accuracy. My long-term goal is to combine my frontline work experience with analytics so I can help make decisions that improve both efficiency and the customer experience.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me.
