About Me

My name is Andrea Resendez, and I am a student at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). I am currently taking BAN 4373: Data Mining for Business Analytics during the Fall 2026 semester. I am interested in developing my knowledge of business analytics and learning how data can be transformed into useful information for business decision-making. My goal as a student is to continue developing analytical and technical skills that will help me understand business problems and use data to identify meaningful solutions.

I consider myself a person who is interested in learning and developing new skills. My academic experience has given me opportunities to learn about business concepts while also becoming more familiar with analytical approaches. I believe that learning how to work with data is increasingly important because organizations rely on information to make decisions, understand customers, evaluate performance, and improve their operations.

Academic Background

I am currently studying at The University of Texas at San Antonio. One of my current courses is BAN 4373: Data Mining for Business Analytics, a three-credit course. The course provides an introduction to machine-learning algorithms and their applications in business analytics.

The course covers supervised and unsupervised learning methods, resampling methods, and model selection. Topics include classification and regression tree methods, k-nearest neighbors, bagging and random forests, support vector machines, social network analysis, and text mining. My academic experience in this course is helping me understand how analytical methods can be used to examine data, discover patterns, and support business decisions. I am particularly interested in developing practical skills that I can apply beyond the classroom.

Professional Background

My professional development is closely connected to my education and the skills I am developing through my coursework. Studying business analytics provides an opportunity to build knowledge that can be valuable in professional environments where organizations need people who can understand data and communicate analytical findings.

Experience With R and Data Mining

My experience with R and data mining is being significantly enhanced by BAN 4373. By participating in this class, I am becoming familiarized with data-mining concepts and machine-learning algorithms. Moreover, I am also learning the importance of producing analytical reports that make use of R Markdown, which is one of the primary components of this assignment. By producing an HTML report and publishing it to RPubs, I am furthering familiarizing myself with the process of documenting and distributing such reports. This is an essential skill to develop, as it will be required in any future classes that require the analysis of large-scale data sets and the use of complex analytical techniques.

Experience With Other Analytic Software

My experience with analytic software is being actively gained through my coursework. I am inclined to learn how to operate analytical software and become familiar with data visualization and business intelligence tools. Gaining the knowledge of analytical software alongside R and data-mining techniques will enable me to understand business data better. I believe this skill will improve my understanding of business analytics, as expertise in technology tools is critical in the field.

Conclusion
