Series plan
Pitcher Plan
Where their offense is strong
  • Run production grades in the 90th percentile nationally.
  • They reach without the ball in play: 4.1 BB + HBP per game across the last 16 games.
How we mitigate it
  • Make the middle of the order hit with the bases empty. Free traffic in front of them is what turns a single into a crooked number.
  • Win strike one. Their on-base profile is built on counts, not on barrels.
Top three hitters — season OPS, 40+ PA
Roch Cholowsky — 1.088 OPS · .320/.452/.636 · 21 HR
Will Gasparino — 1.071 OPS · .314/.412/.659 · 20 HR
Mulivai Levu — 1.063 OPS · .340/.441/.622 · 18 HR
Hitter Plan
What their pitching does well
  • Run prevention grades in the 89th percentile nationally.
  • The staff misses bats: 9.6 K/9 across the last 16 games.
Where we can attack
  • 5 relief arms are carrying elevated recent workload.
How we take advantage
  • Scoring chances will be scarce. Do not give away outs once we create traffic.
  • Shrink the zone with two strikes and make them throw a competitive finish pitch.
  • Make the starter work. Getting into the middle-relief portion of this staff early is worth a plan of its own.
Top three pitchers — ERA and WHIP, 30+ IP

Expected lineup and hitter profile
Read this first. Two different windows appear on this page and they are never mixed in the same column. The season line is the official full-season total. The recent window is built from the 16 most recent games that returned a box score. Season rate stats come from stats.ncaa.org and are recomputed from the counting stats.

Projecting for the next scheduled game. College staffs line up by series slot, not by rest days, so slot history carries the most weight, discounted by recency, then penalised if there is not enough rest. Every input is printed above so the call can be overridden.

Starter workload

Player GS Typical outing Longest outing Median pitches Max pitches
Michael Barnett 5 4.2 6.0 75 86
Wylan Moss 5 4.1 7.0 68 91
Angel Cervantes 4 4.0 5.1 80 94
Landon Stump 2 2.2 3.0 62 67
How deep each starter has actually gone. This is where the opening is: if a starter’s typical outing ends around a known pitch count, the third time through the order is when the plan changes. ESPN does not publish a pitch count for every college game, so blanks here are missing data, not zeros.

Splits are built from box-score appearances rather than from play-by-play. ESPN college play-by-play does not reliably identify which pitcher is on the mound for a given at-bat, so a per-pitcher batter-level split would be guesswork. Anything that needs the man on the mound is reported at staff level on the Spray & Splits tab and labelled that way.
Batted Ball & Situational
Spray tendencies and splits
What this is. Every line below is parsed out of the play-by-play text for 15 games. Direction is field direction, not pull or opposite field: ESPN does not publish batting handedness for college players, so pull side is not knowable and is not guessed at. Gap balls are assigned to the half of the field they were hit toward. The share of plays that could not be parsed is reported at the bottom of this tab rather than quietly dropped.

Hitter spray profile

No batted balls could be parsed from the play-by-play.

Attribution is to the player named at the start of the play only. The previous build credited every roster name that appeared anywhere in the sentence, which handed steal attempts to the catcher and shortstop on any caught-stealing play.

Parse coverage

Metric Value Detail
Plays parsed 4102 after de-duplication
Plate appearances identified 1177 text matched a plate-appearance result
PA attributed to a named batter 0% leading-name match against the box-score roster
Balls in play with a resolved direction 85% left / center / right, from the play text
Balls in play with a resolved type 70% GB / LD / FB / PU / HR
These figures govern how much weight to put on this tab. A direction or type share well under 100% means the play text was less descriptive in those games, not that the hitter did something unusual.

HIGH-END SCORING OFFENSE
Scoring rate ranks in the 90th percentile nationally (17 of 163 D-I teams).
STRONG RUN PREVENTION
Runs allowed ranks in the 89th percentile nationally (19 of 163 D-I teams).
COMPLETE TEAM PROFILE
Run differential per game ranks in the 99th percentile nationally (2 of 163 D-I teams).
RECENT COOL-OFF
Recent win rate is meaningfully below the full-season baseline.
Percentile-based flags are measured against the national field. Rate-based flags (power, free bases, running game, bunts, strikeouts) fire on fixed scouting thresholds set in the THRESHOLDS block at the top of the source file - they are conventions, not league percentiles, and are labelled that way on purpose.

Season lists. Hitters are ranked on season OPS and need 40+ plate appearances. Pitchers are ranked on ERA, then WHIP, and must have thrown 30+ innings (0.5 per team game), so a four-inning cameo cannot lead the staff on rate stats. Recent lists. The same three-deep view over the last 5 games only, ranked on reach rate for hitters (6+ AB) and ERA then WHIP for pitchers (6+ outs). These are small samples by design — they answer who is going well right now, not who is good — so the at-bats and innings behind each rate are printed on the line. Read them next to the season lists, not instead of them.
Plan language is generated from the tables in this report. Where the data did not support a point, the plan says so rather than filling the space. Every claim above traces to a number on another tab.

Source and retrieval log

Source Status Items Oldest retrieved Newest retrieved
ESPN cached 24 Aug 31 21:28 Aug 31 21:31
NCAA cached 3 Aug 31 21:36 Aug 31 21:37
Cached rows were read from the cache/ folder and carry the timestamp of when they were originally downloaded, not of this render. That is the point of showing it: a report built entirely from three-week-old cache should look different from a fresh one.

ESPN vs NCAA agreement

All 14 matched hitters agree within 10 points on every rate stat across the two sources.

Play-by-play consistency

Runs rebuilt from the play text match the final score in 8 of 15 games. This is the single best test of whether the spray and situational tables can be trusted: if the parser cannot recover the score, it is missing events.

Method and limitations

Division of sources. Season rate stats come from stats.ncaa.org and are recomputed from the counting stats. Recent-window counting stats come from ESPN game box scores. Spray, situational and baserunning tendencies come from ESPN play-by-play text. No column mixes two of these.
What this report cannot do. There is no batting or throwing handedness in the public college feeds, so there are no platoon splits and no pull/oppo - only field direction. ESPN college play-by-play does not reliably name the pitcher on the mound, so there are no per-pitcher batter-level splits; that material is reported at staff level. ESPN game box scores omit hit-by-pitch, sacrifice flies, doubles and triples, so a window slash line cannot be rebuilt from them and is not shown. National percentiles are unadjusted for strength of schedule. Runners-in-scoring-position state is reconstructed from text and is deliberately conservative.
