About me

Hi, I’m Jonathan Krier Tran, a graduate student in Business Analytics at California State University Channel Islands. My current objective is to continue building my technical and analytical skills, especially in Python, SQL, Excel, dashboarding, and business decision support. My long-term career goal is to become an analyst in the payments industry, where I can combine data analysis, financial modeling, and product/business insight. Here is my website

Academic Background

I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Business Analytics at CSU Channel Islands, with an expected graduation date of December 2026. My coursework includes AI Tools for Business, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, Business Analytics, Business Strategy, and Foundations of Databases and SQL. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Economics from San Jose State University.

Professional Background

I have nearly four years of experience as a Senior Financial Analyst and Associate Product Manager at Numbrz. In that role, I built financial and operational models, supported forecasting and planning, analyzed churn and revenue trends, reconciled messy business data, and translated stakeholder needs into product specifications and analytical outputs. This experience helped me develop a strong foundation in analytics, business communication, and cross-functional problem solving.

Experience with Excel

I have about 10 years of experience using Excel. Professionally, I have used Excel for financial modeling, forecasting, pivot-table reporting, data reconciliation, scenario analysis, and operational decision support. For example, I built Excel-based reorder and inventory models using ERP reports, usage history, physical counts, vendor cadence, and lead-time assumptions to support purchasing decisions and reduce stockout risk.

Experience with R, Python, PowerBI, & Tableau

I have about four years of experience with Python, especially for data analysis, automation, modeling, and dashboard-oriented projects. I have used tools such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, Jupyter Notebook, Plotly, and Streamlit. I also have experience with Tableau for data visualization and reporting. My Power BI and R experience is more limited, but I am actively expanding my analytics toolkit through my MSBA coursework and project work.

Experience with other analytic software

I have about one year of experience with Stata. I also have experience with SQL, PostgreSQL, Supabase, MySQL Workbench, Google Sheets, Streamlit, Plotly, and API-based data workflows.
