Overview

This document consolidates the financial picture of the Inner Combat Training program for its first program year (July 2025 – June 2026):

  1. the direct cash request submitted to the funder (MHRSB mini-grant),
  2. the in-kind development & support contributed by Empowered Disease Management Health Services, LLC (EDM), and
  3. the in-kind training facility contributed by Soul City Combat Arts Center.

The pairing is the point: a modest cash ask is underwritten by substantial, independently documented in-kind contributions from two community sponsors, demonstrating institutional capacity and financial leverage to the funder.

I. Cash Grant Request (MHRSB Mini-Grant)

These are the direct program-delivery costs for which grant funds are requested.

Budget Item Amount Justification
Uniforms (T-shirts + sweatpants × 20) $700 T-shirt ~$15 + sweatpants ~$20 per participant × 20; ensures equity, no child marked by economic status
Safety equipment (headgear, padding) $900 Sparring headgear, chest/forearm pads for safe contact training; shared equipment maintained by program
Floor mats $1,000 Interlocking foam training mats for safe movement and kata practice; permanent program asset
Nutritional resources / lunch support $800 Supplemental nutrition materials and lunch support not covered by summer program nutrition resources
Printed curriculum and training materials $400 Participant workbooks, meridian reference charts, kata instruction cards, CBT skill sheets
Promotional and community outreach $450 Flyers, posters, neighborhood distribution in priority zip codes; includes MHRSB logo co-branding per requirements
Program evaluation instruments $350 SDQ and RCADS licensed scoring materials; pre/post data entry and facilitator training on instrument use
Contingency (7%) $350 Minor unforeseen expenses; all unused funds returned to MHRSB per grant requirements
TOTAL REQUEST $4,950 EDM contributes in-kind: facility coordination, program leadership, administrative time

II. In-Kind Contributions by Sponsor

Two community sponsors contribute substantial value at little or no cash cost. The table states the true (fair-market) value, the actual cash that changed hands, and the in-kind contribution (the difference absorbed by the sponsor).

Component Fair-Market Value Actual Cash In-Kind
Empowered Disease Management Health Services, LLC (EDM)
IS Architecture & Platform Development (Discounted Fee) $225,000 $45,000 $180,000
Platform Development — Pro Bono $75,000 $0 $75,000
Clinical / Domain SME (Physician) $8,000 $0 $8,000
SME → Production-Grade Software Translation $4,000 $0 $4,000
Design / Engineering / Deployment / Production Support $0 $0 $0
Dialpad VoIP Telephony $235 $235 $0
Nonprofit Formation & Development $0 $0 $0
Soul City Combat Arts Center
Donated Training Space (400 sq ft, 3 hrs/day × 5 days/wk × 10 wks) $3,750 $0 $3,750
TOTAL (ALL SPONSORS) $315,985 $45,235 $270,750
Valuation notes: Clinical SME valued at $200/hr (below the physician-consulting median of ~$300/hr; IQR $150–400). SME→production translation at $100/hr. Training space valued at $25/hr fair rental value for hours used — conservative vs. $30–40/hr matted-studio market, discounted for the Junction-area location. Design/engineering/deployment/support contributed at no cost (bundled above to avoid double-counting); nonprofit formation defrayed by EDM.

III. Consolidated Program Budget

Measure Amount / Ratio
Cash grant requested (MHRSB) $4,950
EDM in-kind contribution (development & platform) $267,000
Soul City Combat Arts Center in-kind (training space) $3,750
Total in-kind contribution (all sponsors) $270,750
Actual cash deployed by EDM to date $45,235
Total Year-1 program value (fair-market) $320,935
Leverage (total in-kind : grant request) 54.7 : 1
Total in-kind as % of total program value 84.4%

Bottom line. For every $1 of grant funds requested, the program’s sponsors contribute approximately 55 dollars of independently documented in-kind value. The funder’s $4,950 underwrites direct participant costs; the technology platform (EDM) and the training facility (Soul City Combat Arts Center) are already built, staffed, and donated.

Beyond the valued items above, EDM additionally contributes facility coordination, program leadership, and administrative time for program delivery; these are real but are not separately valued here, keeping the stated figures conservative.

IV. Methodology & Valuation Basis

  • Development rate. Standard contracted-services rate exceeds $25,000/month; EDM billed $5,000/month for 9 months, then provided 3 months pro bono.
  • Clinical SME rate of $200/hr sits below the physician-consulting market median (~$300/hr; interquartile range $150–400/hr) — a conservative floor.
  • SME → production translation at $100/hr is below prevailing clinical-informatics consulting rates.
  • Donated training space valued by fair rental value of hours used: 3 hrs/day × 5 days/wk × 10 wks = 150 hours at $25/hr = $3,750. The rate is conservative against the $30–40/hr matted-studio market and discounted for the Junction-area, Toledo location.
  • All figures recompute from the params block in the document header — change a rate, an hour count, or the space schedule (e.g., space_days_per_week: 7) and re-knit.
