The gap we're not talking about
Fibre is a different story.

Why it matters
Protein products are crowding out fibre-rich foods.
When a protein bar replaces an apple and almonds, we gain a macronutrient we didn't need more of — and lose the fibre, phytonutrients, and gut-feeding compounds we actually do.
Fibre is linked to lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and colorectal cancer.

The takeaway
Protein isn't bad. The obsession is just misplaced.
If you're eating a varied diet with enough calories, you're almost certainly getting enough protein already.
Fewer than 3 in 100 Canadians are short on protein.

Fewer than 3 in 100 are getting enough fibre.
