Objections to the war with Iran have dominated X.com posts by Congressional Democrats during the weeks since hostilities broke out, while Republicans in Congress have focused on urging passage of the Save America Act, an analysis of traffic on the social media platform shows.
Democrats have called for invoking the War Powers Resolution of 1972, a law that requires the president to consult with Congress when taking military action and to secure the approal of Congress for military operations lasting longer than 60 days. They also have called the war “illegal” and “reckless.”
Republicans, meanwhile, have promoted the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or “Save America Act,” which, among other things, would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.
Each side promoted other causes as well, although somewhat less frequently. The figures below show total mentions of the top 20 topics for each party, and total daily mentions by party of selected topics.
The table shows the full text of posts alluding to a “sharia free America,” one of the more common themes among Congressional Republicans.
