1 :Introduction
The Kenya team, comprising both the MEL and Program teams, is implementing the Nursery Extension Support Tool (NEST) to systematically assess the presence, quality, and performance of tree nurseries supplying seedlings to Forest Gardens across the Kisumu region Project Unit. This tool is designed to generate reliable and structured data that supports informed decision-making within the program.
The sections that follow provide a comprehensive overview of key nursery performance indicators, including seedling quality, management practices, infrastructure adequacy, and overall operational capacity. By applying this checklist consistently across all targeted areas, the program ensures equitable assessment, early identification of challenges, and timely provision of technical support. Ultimately, this process strengthens accountability, improves nursery performance, and enhances the overall effectiveness and sustainability of the Forest Garden Program.
