EDA vax for supervision
Introduction
Despite significant progress in routine immunization, reaching every child with a full schedule of vaccines remains a critical challenge. High initial coverage rates often mask deeper systemic issues, such as high drop-out rates and hard-to-reach zero-dose populations.
This Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is designed to guide and optimize supportive supervision efforts. By moving beyond basic coverage metrics and analyzing the complete immunization cascade—from the first dose to the final scheduled visits—this report identifies specific bottlenecks in district-level performance. The goal is to pinpoint priority districts, understand their specific challenges (such as the “9-Month Drop-Off” between Penta 3 and MR 1), and provide actionable, data-driven insights to help health workers improve retention and ensure every child is fully protected.
About the Data
The insights in this analysis are derived from routine health information systems, focusing on district-level performance to identify areas requiring targeted interventions.
Data Sources: Data is aggregated from the EIR, DHIS2.
Time frame: 2024 reporting period.
Geographic Scope: District and Provincial level (highlighting priority areas falling below national targets).
Key Indicators Analyzed:
Zero-Dose Burden: Measured by the number and percentage of children who have not received their first dose of the Pentavalent vaccine (Penta 1).
Coverage Rates: The percentage of the target population reached for critical antigens, including OPV 1 and Penta 3, measured against the standard 80% coverage threshold.
Drop-Out Rates: A measure of retention within the health system. This specifically tracks the attrition of children between early doses and later scheduled doses (e.g., Penta 3 to MR 1), comparing district performance against the median drop-out rate.
Priority provinces:
- Odomxay
- Luangprabang
- Xiengkhoung
- Savannakhet
- Xaysomboun
The coverage of vaccination is diverse in some provinces, and it is significant worse in MR 1 coverage.

Where are the high unvaccinated children?
Summary a list high-risk districts using multi-dimesional risk indicators.
Classify vaccinne coverage by the following creteria:
- OPV3 < 80%
- Penta3 < 80%
- MR 1 < 95%
- Drop out rate Penta1-3 >= 10%
- Drop out rate Penta 3 - MR 1 >= 10%
