Life Expectancy
The life expectancy data being conducted in the World Happiness Report defined life expectancy for individuals who have reached age 0. Estimates are expressed as the expected age at death, not as years left
Statistics Listed:
Mean = 73.829
Median = 75.008
Standard Deviation = 7.247281
Range = (54.462, 84.712)
Analysis of Data and Graph:
Life Expectancy: The statistics indicate that the average expected life expectancy is approximately 74 years (as the mean of the distribution is ~73.8). There’s more people on the higher life expectancy side as the graph is a bit negatively skewed with mean (~73.8) less than median (~75). From the standard deviation (~7), I learned that on average, people expect individual’s life expectancy to be between age 67 and 81 years old. From the range I learnd that no one has a life expectancy lower than ~54 (the minimum) and higher than ~85 (the maximum).
One question I have concerns the age range of the sample population. Since there are no life expectancy estimates below 54, it is possible that the sample consisted primarily of older individuals, which may have influenced the results.
No outlier removal is necessary.
Self-Reported Life Satisfaction (2024)
The Cantril Ladder Scale : “Please imagine a ladder, with steps numbered from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top. The top of the ladder represents the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder represents the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?”
Statistics Listed:
Mean = 5.484398
Median = 5.8265
Standard Deviation = 1.205131
Range = (1.364, 7.736)
Analysis of Data and Graph:
Life Satisfaction: The statistics indicate that the average rating of life satisfaction is approximately 5 (as the mean of the distribution is ~5.48). There’s more people on the higher rating of life satisfaction side as the graph is a bit negatively skewed with mean (~5.48) less than median (~5.83). From the standard deviation (~1.2), I learned that on average, people’s rating of life satisfaction to be between 3.8 and 6.2. From the range I learnd that no one has a life satisfaction rating lower than ~1.4 (the minimum) and higher than ~7.7 (the maximum).
One question I have is the income level of the sample since there’s no scores near 0 or 10, possible reflecting on a middle class sample demographics.
No outlier removal is necessary.
