The Above data set shown is statistical data of all the hate crimes committed in New York City from 2019-2026. There are a few positive and negative aspects of this data set that need to be addressed. The data set clearly lays out where hate crimes have occurred, when they took place, and what ethnicity the victim was, inclusive of race, religion or other social statuses, and also describes the specific county of where the crime took place. Looking at the data provided, we can see that most of the violent hate crimes occurred within the boundaries of New York City, with most others occurring in neighboring NYC counties, such as Queens and the Bronx. Whilst the data provided is very clear, it does fail to directly note if any of the perpetrators were caught and/or convicted for their hate crimes. It also does not specify if a violent weapon was used in the committing of the hate crime. There are two hypothetical paths I would like to take at some point to further uncover the data. Firstly, comparing the data with hate crime data sets from other jurisdictions, including Washington D.C., Atlanta, Boston and Seattle, to determine which major American city has the most hate crimes, and what percent of total hate crimes around the country involve a specific ethnicity. I would also like to review when a specific ethnicity was targeted the most, and when that ethnicity was targeted the least, in addition to understanding how many of the assailants in the hate crimes were brought to justice.
