Digital technology & mental health

Digital technology (smart devices, the Internet) offers cost-effective solutions to many societal challenges including in promoting mental health.

Applications may be in the health, healthcare sector or simply to stay connected with meaningful others.

Specifics in older migrants

Some older people are more vulnerable than others due to unequal technology access and limited digital literacy.

Some older people are more vulnerable than others due to unequal technology access and limited digital literacy.

Mental health stigmas, and unknown cultural and language barriers intersect in certain groups.

The number of older migrants is rising globally but their specific risk factors, healthcare needs, and limitations (including technology-related) are insufficiently addressed. (Stanciu et al., 2025)

Possible research topics

  1. How can digital technology promote mental health in older people?

  2. What specifics in older migrants can be addressed through digital technology?

  3. Differences and similarities between older natives and older migrants regarding their use of digital technology for healthcare.

What interests you to explore and understand better when it comes to mental health, ageing, culture, and technology?
