Greeting Setup

Greet participant. Direct them to the lab computer in their assigned EEG chamber.

⚠ Do NOT ask for student ID. Attendance is tracked via the did variable in Qualtrics.

Consent Signature Consent

Participant logs into their personal RPP account, locates the study session ID, and clicks the Qualtrics link.

  • This must be done in an incognito window to protect account security.
  • Once the incognito window closes after the session, no one can access their portal.
⚠ A password (given by RA) is required before they can access the consent form and surveys. This prevents remote completion before physical attendance.
ℹ If participant prefers to use their own laptop, permit it. Ask about their preference.

Sizing & Consent Decision Consent

Participant can ask the RA questions about the study at this stage.

If they consent: Qualtrics instructs them to call the RA so their head can be measured for an EEG cap fit.

If they don't consent: They inform the RA. No head measurement. They complete the alternative task only.

⏱ After informing the RA about consent, participants cannot advance for 3 minutes (built into Qualtrics).

Demographic Questions Setup

While the EEG cap is being selected and is soaking, participants complete demographic questionnaires via Qualtrics.

Afterward, they are instructed to call the RA so the EEG cap can be fitted.

Critical Stage Task

This Qualtrics page displays two key values. RA's must record both:

  • Participant Numeric ID — assigned by Qualtrics. Used when running the study file.
  • Code — refers to which study file to run for this participant.
⏱ This page will not be advanceable (no "Next" button) until 20 minutes have passed.
⚠ The Participant ID is to be entered by the RA (not the participant).

Participants move to the main area and have the EEG cap placed on them.

Photogrammetry EEG

The dome should be adjusted according to the manual specifications.

RAs quickly pinpoint cardinal points.

EEG Preparation EEG

Three sub-steps, done in order:

  • Run Impedance via Net Station. Enter the Participant ID in Net Station. Once impedance is checked, click "Start Recording".
  • Locate correct E-Prime executable based on the Code from Step 5.
  • Enter the ID from Qualtrics into E-Prime.

Task Explanation Task

RA provides task explanation to participant.

Two tasks run in sequence:

  • Neural Fingerprint
  • Shift + A for proceeding through pages when ready

Remove EEG EEG

Remove the EEG cap. Participant washes their hair.

Measure DVs Wrap-Up

Participant returns to Qualtrics to complete dependent variable measures.

⚠ A second password is required to access this stage (given by RA).

Debrief + Reconsent Wrap-Up

Debrief is provided via Qualtrics.

Participant provides a digital reconsent signature by scanning a QR code shown on screen or on paper provided by the RA.

Download Debrief Form Wrap-Up

Participant downloads the debrief form for their own records.
