Hello! My name is Serina Zavala, I am currently a senior at UTSA majoring in Business Analytics. Im set to graduate this semester. (Yay!)
This past semester, I had the privilege of studying abroad in Bangkok, Thailand. If there is ever an opportunity that you can take while you’re in college to go abroad, I encourage you to go for it! I studied at Mahidol University International College, where I took lots of research courses, such as Marketing Research, and one that was especially outside of my comfort zone, Econometrics and Data Analysis! (Still a bit traumatized from that class…)
This past summer, I participated in the Data Science & AI Community Innovation Scholars Program, where I interned with United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and was able to get hands on experience with working with real world data sets, able to learn multiple languages, such as Python and SQL, and get experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, and much more. These experiences have both been challenging in their own ways, but the highlight of my college experience!
At the moment, I currently have a part time job in retail, but I am actively seeking out more internships and opportunities to give me experience. At the moment, I am passionate about this program where I mentor college freshmen from my high school district and overall help them throughout their first year of college. I hope to be able to continue with this program after I graduate!
R has been my favorite language to learn so far. I find it the most beginner friendly. Besides this class, the only other experience I have with R is through the prerequisite for this course, which is MS 3083. With data mining, my internship has given me a bit of experience.
My experience with other analytical softwares include:
