Yellowstone Lake Distribution Netting: Below Thermocline Depth Analysis

Analysis Goal

The goal of this analysis was to identify distribution netting sets that were deployed above the thermocline but crossed through it at some point during the set. To accomplish this, I cleaned netting data collected between 2010 and 2025 and filtered for sets that originated above the thermocline and extended beyond a depth of 10 meters. All of these sets were classified as either “shallow” or “AT” in the dataset.

Due to improperly entered UTM coordinates in the raw data, several net sets had to be removed during the spatial‐cleaning process to ensure accurate mapping. As a result of these removals, no usable net data remained for the year 2019, so 2019 was excluded from the analysis.

In the interactive map, you can hover over any individual net and click on it to display a detailed information popup. Each popup includes:

  • Depth start

  • Depth end

  • Year of collection

  • Site number

  • Visit comments, which may include notes on net orientation

These interactive popups allow exploration of individual sampling sites and metadata associated with each net.
