Slide 1: The Challenge of Financial Data

Static financial reports are often:

  • Difficult to navigate: Users cannot zoom into specific dates.
  • Lacking Detail: No tooltips for exact closing prices.
  • Static: One view fits all, with no ability to filter indices.

Our EU Stock Explorer solves these issues by providing a dynamic, web-based interface for historical market analysis.

Slide 2: Data Integrity & Live Processing

The application is powered by the EuStockMarkets dataset. It tracks the daily closing prices of four major European indices (1991–1998).

Live R Execution: Below is the summary of the DAX index, generated directly by R code during the slide render:

summary(EuStockMarkets[, "DAX"])
Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max.
   1402 1744 2141 2531 2722 6186

Slide 3: Strategic Insights & Correlation

Understanding how European markets move together is crucial for risk diversification. Our tool provides a real-time correlation matrix:

  • Market Synchrony: High correlation between DAX and CAC indicates shared economic drivers.
  • Diversification: Identifying periods where indices decouple.
      DAX SMI CAC FTSE
DAX 1.00 0.99 0.97 0.98
SMI 0.99 1.00 0.95 0.99
CAC 0.97 0.95 1.00 0.92
FTSE 0.98 0.99 0.92 1.00

Slide 4: Beyond Analysis – Predictive Forecasting

The ultimate goal of the EU Stock Explorer is to move from hindsight to foresight. By combining our filtered data with predictive models, we can estimate future price movements.

Our Forecasting Pipeline:

  • Step 1: De-noise the signal using the Kalman Filter.
  • Step 2: Fit an ARIMA (AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average) model to the clean signal.
  • Step 3: Project the 30-day confidence interval.
