Dengue fever is a neglected tropical disease. Transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, it is now found in 113 countries.
Dengue is rarely fatal, but it nonetheless causes a high disease burden. It causes joint pain so fever that the disease has been nicknamed "breakbone fever." There is no vaccine and no antiviral for this disease. Only supportive care is available.
