Introduction

In this report, we will explore the hogsmeade data set, which will show values such as orders, units, sales, profit and margin. We aim to identify trends and opportunities within the data. We have hidden all code upon rendering to make it more viual and easier to follow.

Comment.
This table shows which products have the highest performing metrics, Books seem to have the highest profit figure and profit margin making it the most valuable product group. Brooms do have a higher order number and unit sales value so this might indicate an opportunity to increase prices slightly, which would in turn increase our margin and ake it the most profitable product.


Sales trend over time

Comment.
This line chart shows how sales change month by month. One thing we see is that sales tend to spike up around August every year which could be due to the beginning of the school year, indicating an opportunity to sell bundle deals if products will be bought together for the school year.


Category mix by month

This chart shows how each category contributes to monthly sales, highlighting possible seasonalities and opportunities for Hogsmeade.


Sales by category

A bar chart that shows that books, brooms and wands seem to be the most popular items, arguably because they have the most importance in school.


Profit by region and category

Comment.
Darker red shows more profitable combinations of region and category. Brooms in Diagon Alley are the most profitable segment.Potions in Diagon Alley and Wands in Hodsmeade are not performing optimally, may be an indication of a lack of advertising.


Delivery method and profit per order

Comment.
We see which delivery methods tend to produce higher or lower profits per order. On Average in this case, Thestral Courier seems to be the more profitable delivery method, however floo network has the highest ever profitability among the delivery methods.


Discount vs profit

Comment.
This chart shows how discounts affect per-order profit. We see that 10% has the highest profitability amon gthe discounts, however 20% seems to yield a higher profit than 15%. This works well for us as we maintain a higher profit and the customer feels as if they got a better deal leading to higher satisfaction.


Price distribution by category

Comment.
Each histogram shows the price spread for a category. What is interesting to see here is that for Robes, the highest price seems to lead to the highest unit sales, indicating that the customer does not want to compromise on a lower price for lower quality as they want the product to last, if the potential demand is there, there is an option to explore more premium options for those who wwant an even higher quality.


Top products by sales

Comment.
These are the 15 products with the highest sales. History of Magic and Flying Carpet seem to be the products with the highest sales.


Conclusion

This report analyses the supplied data set to identify potential weaknesses and opportunities within Hogsmeade. We have given advice where applicable and identified seasonality which may help Hogsmeade take advantage of predictable consumer behaviour.
