  • Our dataset contains 16 variables — 10 numeric and 6 character — and 4392 observations.
  • We can see that there are some missing values for the final admission score and admission test score variables
  • The distribution of candidates by final admission score, admission test score, and bachelor’s degree is left-skewed.
  • The range of the variable ‘bachelor’s degree’ is between 6 and 10
  • The minimum score obtained on the admission test is 0 points, and the maximum score is 100 points
  • The minimum score obtained on the final admission score is 4.96 points

Missing values

Proportion of missing values

The dataset does not contain any missing values. However, because it includes all registered candidates, including those who did not participate in the admission exam, the missing values that we observe are associated with these absent candidates.

Conclusions

Following the analysis, we note that 7% of candidates did not participate in the admission exam and were declared absent, while 93% participated in the exam. Most of the absent candidates were from the diaspora group (26%), followed by candidates in the standard category.

It can also be seen that most of the admitted candidates were from the standard category, followed by candidates from the diaspora and candidates with disabilities.

With regard to the number of rejected candidates, we note that the highest number was recorded among candidates from the diaspora, followed by those in the standard category and candidates with disabilities.

Overall, the standard category accounted for the largest share of participants, representing 98% of all candidates enrolled in the admission competition.

Out of the total number of registered candidates, 77% were admitted, 16% were rejected, and 7% did not participate in the competition. Among the admitted candidates, 43% secured tuition-free places, while 34% were admitted on a tuition-fee basis.

We observe that the faculty with the highest number of candidates declared absent is the faculty of business administration in foreign languages, followed by the faculty of Cybernetics, statistics and economic informatics. The faculty with the highest percentage of admitted candidates out of the total number of registered candidates is the faculty of agri-food and environmental economics (99%), followed by the faculty of public administration and management with 98%. The high percentage may indicate that, in these faculties, the available places were not fully occupied. In the case of faculties with a low percentage of admitted candidates, this suggests that competition is higher. —
