4. Define function for calculating centroid coordinates and approximate radius for Block Groups: For each block group in Griffin, the geographic centroid and an approximate radius were computed. Polygons were projected for accurate distance measurement, the radius was calculated from the bounding box corner to the centroid, and centroids were transformed back to geographic coordinates for mapping and spatial analysis.

5. Bounding Box & Fishnet Grid Generation: A regular grid of points (fishnet) was created over Griffin’s bounding box in projected coordinates. The city polygon was divided into equal intervals along x and y axes, grid points were converted to geographic coordinates, and each point was assigned a radius equal to half the cell diagonal. Buffers around these points were visualized to ensure full coverage of the city area.

6. Requesting Google API Data & parsing JSON into Data Frame: POI data for pharmacies and drugstores were collected using the Google Places Nearby Search API. The request included the required 8 fields—places.id, places.displayName, places.formattedAddress, places.location, places.types, places.priceLevel, places.rating, and places.userRatingCount. The API response was parsed into a structured data frame.

8. Visualizing Results: The structure of the collected POI dataset was inspected using names() to view all column names. This provided a quick glimpse of the available fields and helped verify that the required information had been successfully retrieved before further analysis and visualization.

9. Creating Spatial Points and Mapping POIs: The POI dataset was converted into a POINT sf object using longitude and latitude, excluding rows with missing coordinates. An interactive map was created with tmap, showing the city boundary and POI locations. The points were styled by priceLevel and sized by userRatingCount, with pop-ups displaying the name and rating count of each location, enabling visual exploration of spatial patterns in pharmacy distribution.

• Although price level data is incomplete, retaining it on the map can help users identify locations within their budget. Additionally, sizing points by user rating count provides an indication of popularity and footfall, helping users make informed choices.
