Hello! I’m Braxton, a senior majoring in Statistics and Data Science
(And minoring in Actuarial Science) here at UTSA. I am also a proud
member of the UTSA Stats
Club.
Academic Background
- I currently hold two associates degrees, One in the arts and the
other in science both from Northwest Vista College
- I am also majoring in Statistics and Data Science at UTSA as mentioned previously, but it is
still in progress
- After graduation I plan to pursue a Masters in Data Science at the
University of Texas at Austin
Professional Background
Outside of my academic background I don’t have an extensive
professional background. Most of my time since graduating high school in
2019 has centered around pursuing my education (With some setbacks
related to life events along the way).
I did however hold one job for some of my time in college.
- 1.5 years at Snowflake Donuts in Bandera, TX as a Food Service
Associate
Experience with R
R has been both my primary and preferred programming language for the
past 2 years. I have used R for data cleaning, and data visualization. I
also have used R as for a wide range of statistical methods including
Linear Models, ANOVA, T-Tests, and a very limited amount of Time Series
Analysis.
Experience with Data Mining
I have experience in some of the key statistical concepts that
encompass Data Mining.
I know:
- Descriptive Statistics
- Inferential Statistics
- Probability Theory (Except Bayesian
Inference)
- Regression Analysis
I kind of know:
- Classification Techniques (Mostly
Discriminant Analysis, not Decision Trees, Naive Bayes, or KNN)
- Clustering and Unsupervised Learning
(Mostly Dimensionality Reduction and Principal Component Analysis, Not
Hierarchical clustering or K-means clustering)
I don’t really know:
- Time Series Analysis
- Model Validation and Evaluation (Except
for ROC curves and Confusion Matrix)
Other Software I have used
- SAS
- Excel
- Some Python (Currently Taking)
- Some C++
- Some SQL
