Data Overview Pt. 2

  • The “RankAdjEM” variable is a measure of a team’s offensive and defensive efficiency adjusted for their strength of opponent. In other words, it measures how good a team is

  • The “Exp” variable is weighted based on playing time and gives the average number of years a player has of Division 1 experience

  • The “Cont” variable is also weighted on playing time and is the percentage of playing time for players who were on the same team last year.

Plot

This plot displays a team’s rank on the y-axis, and continuity % on the x-axis. The size of the circle is their experience

Analysis

The plot on the previous slide provides some predictable findings. Namely, as we go down the y-axis (a.k.a as teams get better), we see bigger circles, meaning better teams have more experience. There is also a correlation between continuity and a team’s overall rank. You can especially see the relation between experience and rank looking at the y-axis where continuity is near zero. This is likely because teams that are still good but have little continuity are getting transfers with a lot of experience. You can hover over a point to show the team name. Find your favorite school!
