Synopsis of who I am

Hello again, my name is Jay Weil, I was born in Cincinnati and have spent most my life here (besides the one year I lived in Louisiana while attending my first year of undergrad at LSU).

I was homeschooled 1st-8th grade by my mom, who was the best teacher ever! I then attended St. Xavier High School just twenty minutes north of UC’s campus

I completed my undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering at UC and now I am back to work towards my Masters of Science in Business Analytics!

My personal interests are building PCs, playing PC games, board games, music (favorite bands are Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains, and Radiohead), spending time with my friends, exploring places I’ve never been, and hanging out with my mom’s dogs Coach and Goose.

Academic background

Professional background

Currently I am, working part time as, a Service Engineer at Mapvision Inc. Mapvision is responsible for the quality control of visual inspection equipment that we sell to our customers- car part manufacturers. My role as a Service Engineer is to maintain the accuracy and efficency of my customers quality inspection equipment. I did all my co-op rotations – four in total – at Mapvision and have worked there part time for now four semesters- handling remote updates while I complete my course work.

During my timne at UC in undergrad I also worked at a Peer Mentor for Pre-Engineering students, assisting their professor with daily class activites and course planning.

Before Mapvision I worked at EpCor Foundry, a car part foundry in Finnytown, OH- where I worked as an assistant Quality Enginner. My daily tasks were to run tasks on the sand used to make the molds for the car parts, as well as run returned metal assesments to sort through salvagable parts to return to a point in the manufacturing line to be treated or melted.

And before all of that career experience, I worked five years as a lifeguard at Oakhills Swim Club, spending the final two years as the Head Guard on the staff.

Experience with R

I have no prior experience with R outside of what has already been taught in this Data Wrangling course. I am excited to continue increasing my understanding of R as this half semester progresses.

Experience with other analytic software

I do have some other analytic software experience, mainly through my undergraduate education. I used Excel mainly, especially the visual basic tool, and a bit of Python as well. I am curious to see how quickly I add more and more analytic software to my toolbelt as my graduate studies continue.
