Music in the ’40s
- the most popular genre was Jazz. - the Blues genre got introduced and got popular in 1948. - The Jazz genre had both the highest and lowest popularity score. - the highest popularity score was in 1942 with the score of 62. - the lowest popularity score was in 1943 with the score of 33.
Music in the ’50s
- As the 50s passed by, Jazz slowly lost its popularity and Pop became the most popular genre. - Even though most people still listened to Jazz in 1950 and 1954. - Other genres also got popular throughout the decade: (Country, R&B). - the genre with the highest popularity score was Pop in 1951 with the score of 82. - the genre with the lowest popularity score was Country in 1952 with the score of 57.
Music in the ’60s
- In the 60s, Pop was the only genre that people listened to and also has one of the highest popularity scores throughout the decade. - the highest popularity score was in 1965 with the score of 95. - the lowest popularity score was in 1962 with the score of 83. - This showed that Pop was becoming more popular as time passed throughout the ’60s.
Music in the ’70s
- In the 70s, Pop was the most popular genre and also has one of the highest popularity scores throughout the decade. - The genre, Disco, got introduced and got popular later on in the decade. - the genre with the highest popularity score was Pop with the popularity score of 90. - This showcased that many people listened to Pop in 1973 and 1979. - the genre with the lowest popularity score was Pop in 1972 with the score of 57.
Music in the ’80s
- Just like the 60s and 70s, Pop was the most popular genre in the 80s. - The genres, Alt Rock and Metal, got introduced and got popular later on in the decade. - The Pop genre had both the highest and lowest popularity score. - The highest popularity score was Pop in 1980 with the score of 96. - This became one of the highest popularity scores overall. - The lowest popularity score was Pop in 1989 with the score of 85. - This showed that Pop was slowly losing its popularity throughout this decade - This was because Alt Rock and Metal was being introduced.
Music in the ’90s
- As time passed and it hit the ’90s, the Metal genre slowly lost its popularity and got to a point where only Alt Rock and Pop were the genres people listened to. - the most popular genre was Pop. - the genre with the highest popularity score was Pop in 1998 with the score of 92. - Both genres, Pop and Alt Rock had the lowest popularity score in 1993 and 1994 respectively with the score of 84. - This proved that at a certain point, people stopped listening to Alt Rock music. - Alt Rock eventually lost its popularity which resulted in Pop becoming popular again from 1995 onwards.
Music in the 2000s
- As it finally hit the 2000s, Alt Rock slowly gained more popularity and the genres of Hip-Hop and EDM were introduced - Note that Hip-Hop and EDM were put together as one genre in the graph known as “Today”
