  • The Australian Federal Election 2025 was held on May 3 (Australian Electoral Commission, 2025).
  • Voters elected members to the House of Representatives.
  • This slideshow will explore the results and insights of the 2025 Australian Federal Election.

The Data: Insights

The 3 leading parties were Australian Labor Party, Liberal, and Liberal National Party of Queensland, here are some insights:

  • Australian Labor Party holds majority of seats with 94 seats.

  • Liberal with 18 seats.

  • Liberal National Party of Queensland with 16 seats.

The gap between Australian Labor Party compared to other parties were shown to be significant and large in numbers.

Changes from Last Election

  • Parties that had no changes from last election were excluded in the graph
  • Labor party gained 17 seats compared to last election
  • Decrease was seen in The Nationals, The Greens, Liberal National Party of Queensland; with significant seat losses for the Liberal Party

Voter’s Fragmentation

Voter’s Fragmentation: Insights

The pie chart shows voter’s fragmentation towards Labor, Coalition, and minor parties.

  • “Labor” = Australian Labor Party. Holds the majority, with 68% of power in the House of Representatives.

  • “Coalition” = Liberal, Liberal National Party of Queensland, Country Liberal Party (NT). These are parties in the Liberal-National Coalition (Predavec, 2025). They hold 31% of power in the House of Representatives.

  • “Minor Parties” = Independents and other minor parties. This shows voter’s diversification. The contribute with 1% of power in the House of Representatives.

Political Representation in States

  • NSW and VIC accumulated most seats. This can be due to their population larger compared to other states.
  • Liberal National Party of Queensland has a strong presence in Queensland.
  • The bar chart highlights that party presence is not evenly distributed. Some dominated certain region. E.g. Liberal National Party of Queensland, dominating Queensland and Australian Liberal Party dominating Australian Capital Territory.

Conclusion

  • The Australian Labor Party won the majority parliament seats. Showing a clear victory for the party.

  • Liberal Party including the Coalition suffered loss is parliament seats, by only achieving 31% of seats (Refer to Voter’s Fragmentation slide).

  • From the Political Representation in States chart, it is clear in high-density states such as NSW and VIC, political presence are highly concentrated.

  • The 2025 Australian Federal Election results highlights the elvoving nature of Australian politics, where regional dynamics and voter’s fragmentation remain vital in national decision-making and future government.
