OCAT-Exec FPL 2024-25 Season Review
1 Introduction
Welcome to the end of season review of the OCAT-Exec FPL League! 📰
This year saw some seasoned contenders sign up, as-well as new faces within OCAT and also some familiar faces from the Exec. We also saw the introduction of the NHS-Exec Constructors League.
The leagues were dramatic as ever, with seasoned managers struggling, some surprise contenders coming to the fore and also new Champions to crown.
2 Final League Tables
Here’s how the final tables look
Blue League
Red League
3 The Title Races
Blue League
Defending Champion Arthur got off to the worst start imaginable, only winning once in the first 14 GWs! He did manage to turn things around though and finished in a commendable 4th place, not too far off Lloyd, who was flirting with 1st place throughout the season. Nathan had a bit of a purple patch at the start of the year, backed by the goalscoring feats of Haaland but that form, along with Haaland’s goals, disappeared and he stumbled to a 7th place finish. Above him was Louis, finishing in 6th although he never really looked like challenging this year.
It was Jackie who got off to the best start, leading for much of the first half of the season but like Nathan and Louis, drifted away as the season progressed. Once Jackie relinquished her lead, myself and Lou became the 2 main challengers for the title for most of the season, exchanging places in the closing weeks. But it was Lou who prevailed and is crowned as the Blue League Champion! Well done Lou! Astonishingly, Lou only made 8 transfers across the whole season! Proving that sometimes less is more. Although it certainly helps when you draft the 2 highest scoring players this season in Salah and Mbeumo!
Red League
Like Arthur, Andrew’s title defense started slowly, lingering towards the bottom of the table in the opening couple of months. Things did pick up though and he gradually moved up the table as the season progressed, eventually finishing 2nd. The same couldn’t be said about Matt, who finished bottom, with wins rare to come by in the 2nd half of the season. Kirsty’s season never quite got going either and she ended up finishing 7th place but with a bit of luck, could arguably have finished a couple of places higher.
Both Hugo and Jamie never really looked like challenging for the title and exchanged places in the mid-table frequently. The latter’s form did improve in the final 10 GWs or so, managing to seal a 4th place finish as-well as earning vital points for the Exec in the Constructor’s Championship. The surprise package of the season was Mari, who stormed off into the lead in the opening quarter, with Salah being her talisman. Zac eventually caught up with her though and he never looked back, with his lead barely threatened from GW16 onwards and, like Liverpool, coasted to the title.
4 Honours Board
Zac and Lou are now immortalised in the Honours Board. Thanks to Zac for creating this!
5 Constructors League
It looked like OCAT were going to run away with the Constructors League. But the Exec staged an almighty comeback, powered by the great end of season form of Lloyd, Arthur, Andrew and Jamie.
Congratulations to the Exec for winning the inaugural Constructors League, although it’s nice to see the Blue and Red League titles back in OCAT hands 😉
6 Manager Awards
Onto the awards, it wouldn’t be an end of season review without them! I’ve tried to ensure everybody gets an award, although I may have been scraping the barrel with a couple…
👑 Best draft pick: Lou and Mari
FPL King Mo Salah broke his own FPL points scoring this season, scoring a total of 344 points! Lou and Mari were fortunate enough to draft him at the start of the season.😕 Most unfortunate draft pick: Hugo
At the beginning of the season, Hugo drafted Brentford forward Ivan Toney and you’d bet he would have reached double figure goals once again this year had he stayed at Brentford. But off he jetted to the Saudi League, depriving Hugo of one of the more premium forward options.🔁 Best waiver: Arthur
Arthur transferred in Harvey Barnes ahead of DGW32, which bagged him 27 points, as-well as defeating top of the table Lou.🔝 Highest GW score: Louis
Louis accumulated 78 points in GW24, with some big hauls from Mateta, Gibbs-White and Son.📈 Longest unbeaten streak: Jackie
Nobody quite managed to get the fabled perfect green form bar but Jackie went the closest, earning 7 wins and 1 draw between GW3-10.👎 Unluckiest Manager: Nathan
A 7th placed finish wasn’t reflective of Nathan’s performance this year, with his team actually scoring the 4th highest amount of total points in the Blue League. Adding to this, 12 of his 23 losses were by 6 points or less. Fine margins.😲 Biggest upset: Matt
Matt may have finished last in the Red League but he managed to get the better of League winner Zac in 2/5 of their fixtures!💪 Most improved: Andrew
His season got off to a terrible start and although he didn’t defend his title, he ended up finishing in a respectable 2nd place in the Red League.✨ Best newcomer: Lloyd
A 3rd place finish in the Blue league during his debut season and was in the hunt for the title up until the last few GWs.😞 Linkin Park Award: André
He tried so hard and got so far… and he has a habit of talking about himself in the 3rd person. Successive 2nd place finishes in the Blue league has brought much disappointment. Maybe next year!🖼️ Best meme: Zac
Zac loves a meme and his title celebration meme was my personal favourite.🤝 Commitment to the cause: Kirsty
Last year she was prepping her team on her honeymoon, this year she is still as committed to the FPL cause, with house renovations and a baby on the way! Can she be tempted back for next season though?👱♂️ Tallest manager: Jamie
Jamie is really tall
7 Final Thoughts
It was a long season but thanks to everyone who participated or watched the drama unfold in the groupchat! A final congratulations to Lou and Zac for winning their respective leagues! 👏
The 2025/26 season kicks off in the middle of August so we have a couple of months to relax and thankfully not think about FPL. Me and Zac will be in touch around mid July to start arranging next season’s leagues! 📅
