1 Overview

First, a rough, randomized transect plan is generated using makeTransects.Rmd.

Next, routes created using makeTransects.Rmd are imported to Coastal Explorer for further waypoint editing and final formatting.

Finally, those waypoints are exported to GPX format, which can be plotted and checked using checkTransects.Rmd.

Repeat this process of editing in Coastal Explorer, exporting to GPX, and checking using checkTransects.Rmd to achieve a final transect plan.

If happy with the results, comma-separated value (.csv) files containing waypoints that can be copied to project instructions, etc., can be found at C:/KLS/CODE/Github/estimATM/2506SH/Output/tables_updated.

Orange points represent UCTD stations. Blue points represent CTD stations. Green stations represent surface eDNA stations.

2.3 Static map - By leg

Leg progress was calculated based on the total number of days at sea (81 DAS), leg durations of 16, 14, 14, 14, and 15 DAS after subtracting days lost to transits (0,2,2,2 and 2 DAS, respectively), daytime trawling (4.85 h/day), daytime CTD casts (1.6 h/day), and the cumulative distance traveled along and between transects.
