Client Bio
Client:Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW)
Bio: AIHW is a government agency that dedicates to provide the information and statistics on Australia’s public health and welfare, to help inform health policy decisions and community services. https://www.aihw.gov.au/
Recommendation
AIHW should be prioritizing hormone receptor (ER/PR) status in early detection programs. Patients with negative estrogen and progesterone status have a higher mortality rate. Therefore, incorporating routine ER/PR testing into early detection strategies can significantly improve prognistic accuracy and treatment planning.
Evidence
From the data, we can clearly see the difference between the mortality rate between patients with having either positive ER/PR or negative ER/PR. ER positive patients have around 86.5% survivors whereas negative patients have a around 59.9% survival rate. and for patients that are PR positive, they have an roughly 87.6% survival rate while PR negative patients only have a 70.8% survival rate. In terms of tumor aggressiveness, the data present a significant increase in the numbers of grade 3 tumors within the patients with PR/ER negative in comparison to PR/ER positive patients. 64.7% of ER negative patients have grade 3 tumors whereas only 25.0% of the ER positive patients have grade 3 tumor. 45.7% of the PR negative patients have grade 3 tumors while 23.8% of the PR positive patients have grade 3 tumors.

Using the histogram, we can determine that the mortality rate for patients that are PR/ER positive are far less than patients with even one of PR/ER negative. the mortality rate for patients with both positive hormone status only have around 12.5% mortality from the graph (visually) while patients with one of the hormone status being negative almost doubles in mortality rate, with both status being negative, the mortality rate even reaches to around 40%.
From external sources, such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation (2022), they suggests that hormone receptor status are very important for a patient to stay healthy as they mentioned that hormone receptor negative breast cancer is more aggressive and harder to treat. # Limitations
-The data set lacks environmental variables, meaning that there can be people living in rural areas who might not be able to gain access to the best health care as they can might be contributing to the mortality rate. -The data is based in 2017 (the data sets provided), which is relatively old. Meaning that it can be not as accurate as it used to be.
