Hi, I’m a recent business administration graduate from California State University, Bakersfield. My current objective is to find a job in advertising or digital marketing!
I have a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Bakersfield in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I have graduated from Taft College with an associate’s degree in Business Administration.
I have 1.5 years of experience as a student assistant at the Walter Stiern Library at CSUB. I’m responsible for library services within the circulation department, customer service, and aiding in the completion of library projects.
I have 1 year of experience as an intern at The Walt Disney Company within the food and beverage sector. I was responsible for displaying The Walt Disney Company’s “Five Keys,” including Safety, Show, Efficiency, Inclusion, and Courtesy. In addition, I delivered exceptional guest experience for a Fortune 100 Company and completed multiple tasks within a high-volume and high stress work environment .
I also have 2 1/2 years of experience as a shift leader at Taco Bell. I was responsible for managing and leading a group of people in a fast paced environment. In addition, I was trusted to count the store’s cash on a daily basis and managed inventory on a weekly basis.
I have some prior experience with Excel. I’ve learned how to do various tasks within the program through a data analysis and management information systems course at CSUB. Some examples of tasks I can complete within the program include regression analysis, building tables, and sorting data.
I have some experience with R. In the program I have learned how to conduct A/B testing, regression analysis, cluster analysis and much more.
#Course Reflection - MKTG 4000
This semester I learned how to use a programming language called R in order to visualize data in order to make more informed decisions with real life applications. We started with the basics, such as basic programming language and creating a simple “about me” page. During the semester we progressed our skills to be able to perform A/B testing, clustering analysis, regression analysis, and much more! I was taught how to use packages in R, such as ggplot, to make visually appealing graphs to support my data. In addition we also dabbled in Tableau, which was pretty cool. I like how user friendly the free version of Tableau was with the simple drag and drop feature.
During the semester I was also fortunate enough to go on the trip to CSU Channel Islands with my peers where we competed in the “Plot-a-Thon.” My team, which consisted of me, Sidney, Nicholas, and Cheyanne, made an infographic about the impacts of visitors on wildlife in national parks. Although at that point in the semester we did not know too much about R, we were able to work together and tell a story with our data. It was very rewarding to use our education that we received at CSUB to apply our skills to real world data. Although my team did not win, I feel like we learned a lot that weekend!
The first thing I learned in this course that I believe will help me with my future career is that programming languages are a powerful tool for visualizing data. Prior to this course I only thought excel would benefit me, but I now believe that knowing these programs (such as R) will help set me apart from other job applicants. Something else I learned in this course is the power of storytelling through the use of data. During our CSUCI trip we were tasked with the creation of an infographic that not only shares important data, but also tells a story. Sharing with data without meaning doesn’t help people make better decisions, so it is important to learn how to structure data in a way that makes sense.
A strategy that helped me be successful in this course was working with my peers! We relied on each other to get a better understanding of the course material, as well as problem-solve our errors when coding on R. If I could do something again differently, I would ask more questions and get more clarifications while in class. One thing I want to learn is more R packages. R Studio provides a lot of packages that we have not utilized, so it would be interesting to get a better idea of all the capabilities of R.
After completing the course, I feel much more confident using R and I believe I learned a valuable skill to bring with me to my future career.
