Assignment 7 - No Mans Sky

No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky was a game that came out in 2016 which was publicly hated on for not delivering on the features that they promised. However they later fixed the game and delivered on their promises years after the fact and continued to improve the game after. We will be using data from metacritic for this analysis. I want to find out if the reviews did get a lot more favorable over the years or if it was negligible.

How has public opinion changed over the years

We will examine the data below to see the general change in public opinion over the years: using both the specific scores as well as general positivity.

looking at the data above we can tell that the release year had an extremely negative reception in 2016, but started to get much better at 2018 and onward. this coincides with the time where the game started getting updated with the features promised as well as additional features. However, the mass amount of reviews were during the launch year of 2016, making it so that the game ’s review score is heavily affected by review scores in the past that are most likely no longer accurate.

Looking at this data we can see that there is an extreme amount of 0 out of 10’s given during 2016 showing to the extent that people hated the game during the launch year as well as the next year. We can also see that in more recent years that the game is getting a majority of 9’s and 10’s showing that people tend to really love the game now.
