Here we examine RE employment patterns from 2016-2024, by classification group and tenure. The RE Employment Data were derived from: https://hrdatahub-centrededonneesrh.tbs-sct.gc.ca/?GoCTemplateCulture=en-CA#ReportSectionTopDiv.

To estimate RE Employment perCapita, population Data were derived from: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/71-607-x/71-607-x2019036-eng.htm

(Data are available in the file RE_Employment2016-2024fromCPA.csv. The data are in wide format, with columns for each classification group. The data were reshaped to long format using the pivot_longer function from the tidyverse package.)

The number of SE employees is the largest, followed by DS and MA and then HR. As there were no students and unknown in any of the classifications, they were dropped from further analyses.

Total Numbers

Proportions

From a proportional perspective, the SE term employess has increased. The DS and MA term employess may have decreased in 2024 but increased in HR.

Per Capita

The statistics above assume no change in the Canadian population over time. The population has increased from 2016 to 2024, so the number of RE employees per million population is a better measure of the RE workforce. When expressed on a per capita basis,we can see that Indeterminate tenure has declined across classifications, with the exception of HR (Table X). As well, the %change in Term positions is positive for all classifications, with the exception of HR.
