Introduction

  1. The innovation agenda in an organization requires effective leadership.

  2. Lakhani and Marquard argued that leadership is a contextual phenomenon, and that innovation organizations require a different kind of leadership.

  3. Innovation leadership requires a mix of five qualities: Stewardship, communication, creativity, vision, and empowerment.

The Innovation Leadership Inventory is designed to provide the leaders of innovation-centered organizations with a valid and reliable assessment of their leadership capabilities.

Methodology

The Innovation Leadership Inventory is a simplified version of the iLeadership Inventory developed by Lakhani and Marquard.

It calculates the percentile score for Innovation Leadership based on the input provided by the participant on three questions. Say, these responses are a, b, and c.

Innovation Leadership score is computed as follows:

#Leadership score <- (a + b - c +3) * 8.3

Why this Matters

Innovation, a prized asset in organizations, requires talented people.

People get their inspiration, guidance, and support from their leaders. Without effective leaders, organizations cannot innovate effectively.

By providing an easy way for leaders to assess how effective they are, the Innovation Leadership inventory can help drive innovation in organizations.
