The primary question I wish to answer is if the weather affects the number of reviews. My hypothesis is that when there is inclement weather, such as rain or cold days, more people are order food from restaurants and therefore leave reviews.
The resources needed to complete this task are:
The number of reviews was compared to the average temperature for that area for the year. Temperatures above the average are counted as "Hot Days", and those below are "Cold Days".
## Reviews ExpectedFrequency Ratio ## Hot Days 10700 0.5 0.4825907 ## Cold Days 11472 0.5 0.5174093 ## Total 22172 1.0 1.0000000
Number of reviews was compared to days that precipitation was confirmed as to those without
## PrecipDays PrecipFreq Reviews Ratio ## Rainy Days 1722 0.07766552 2212 0.09976547 ## Dry Days 20450 0.92233448 19960 0.90023453 ## Total 22172 1.00000000 22172 1.00000000
There is a slight increse in the number of reviews in cold days to hot days indicating a correlation.
Also when there is precipitation the number of reviews also increases, also indicating a correlation between the two.
The data suggets that when there is incliment weather there is a greater likelihood of consumers purchasing food from restaurants, making the assumption that the likelihood of leaving a review is the same.
