Why is it interesting?

Statistics about population data has a lot of purposes

  • Urban management
  • Planing of public services like transportation
  • Real estate market
  • many more

and i.e. if you plan a longer stay in Berlin, you may be interested in where your peer group lives

Where do the data come from?

Open data catalogs are good sources for population data.

In this case the data comes from the Amt für Statistik Berlin-Brandenburg

published on berlin open data.

What does the app?

It provides two ways of visualizing

  • a pyramid plot
  • a map of districts and charters

to compare the proportion of natives and foreigners in Berlin grouped by gender, age and districts

plot of chunk unnamed-chunk-1

How can I try it myself?

The app is hosted on the shiny server under PopulationExplorerForBerlin

If you are interested in the source code, you will find it on GitHub.
