Understanding of the Essential Values Pre and Post-Training

Confident in implementing and facilitating Values Learning Community
(VLC) sessions

How effective were the interactive exercises and scenario-based
discussions in enhancing your understanding

Do you feel prepared to cascade the training to Peer Guides in your
school

How likely are you to apply the knowledge and skills gained from
this training in your role

What challenges do you foresee in implementing VLC sessions in your
school
- Resource Constraints A common challenge raised by participants was
the lack of resources, including inadequate training materials and
limited access to VLC handbooks.
“Insufficient handbooks for all learners is a big issue.”
”The resources for implementation are not readily available, which
makes it difficult to sustain the sessions.”
- Classroom Size and Infrastructure Several participants pointed out
that large class sizes and limited infrastructure pose significant
obstacles. According to them, managing interactive discussions and
activities in overcrowded classrooms can be difficult.
“Class sizes are too large, making it hard to engage every
student meaningfully.” ”Limited space in classrooms makes it
difficult to organize group discussions effectively.”
- Time Constraints Many participants highlighted scheduling conflicts
as a barrier to effective VLC implementation. With packed academic
timetables, finding time for VLC sessions can be challenging.
“The school schedule is already tight, and adding VLC sessions is
not easy.” ”We need a dedicated time slot for VLC sessions so they
don’t interfere with other academic activities.”
- Student Engagement and Motivation A few respondents expressed
concerns over student participation in VLC sessions. Some feared that
without engaging teaching methods or incentives, students might lose
interest.
“Some students do not see the need for these sessions, so keeping
them engaged is difficult.” ”Learners are not always motivated to
participate in discussions, which affects the impact of VLC.”
- Training and Support Gaps Although the initial training was
well-received, some facilitators noted that they require additional
support to confidently implement VLC sessions. They expressed a need for
refresher courses and ongoing mentorship.
“We need continuous training to refresh our knowledge and improve
our facilitation skills.” ”There should be regular check-ins to
guide us on how to implement VLC effectively.”
- School Leadership and Policy Support A few participants stressed the
importance of institutional backing in ensuring the sustainability of
VLC sessions. They felt that stronger administrative support could help
formalise VLC as an integral part of school activities.
“School leadership must take VLC seriously and provide more
support.” ”If the administration does not prioritize VLC, it will
be difficult to sustain in the long run.”
This indicates that buy-in from school authorities is crucial for the
long-term success of VLC programs.
What additional support or resources would help you implement VLC
effectively
- Provision of Training Materials One of the most frequently mentioned
needs was the availability of adequate training materials, particularly
VLC handbooks and other instructional guides. Many participants
emphasised that a lack of materials will limit their ability to deliver
the sessions.
“The enough handbooks after peer training for all learners will
make it easier to implement VLC.” ”We need enough copies of the
handbook to support the training.”
- Additional Capacity-Building and Refresher Training Many
facilitators expressed the need for continuous professional development,
including refresher training sessions to reinforce their facilitation
skills.
“Improvise resources can help, but we also need follow-up
training.” ”There should be refresher courses to strengthen our
skills and confidence.”
- Administrative and Institutional Backing Several participants noted
that stronger support from school leadership and educational authorities
would help integrate VLC into the existing school structure more
effectively.
“School management must be involved to ensure VLC is taken
seriously.” ”If the leadership supports it, implementation will be
much easier.”
- Technology and Digital Resources Some respondents suggested that
technology could help facilitate VLC sessions, especially in cases where
printed materials are insufficient.
“Sufficient materials for VLC session should be available online
too.” ”Access to digital resources would make it easier to deliver
the sessions effectively.”
- Student Engagement Strategies A few participants expressed the need
for creative engagement techniques to sustain student interest in VLC
sessions.
“We should get something to hold the learners’ attention.”
”The activities in some sections should be reduced to make them
more interactive.”
