Analysis of the Quality of Life in Different Countries
with an introduction to Quarto
Introduction
I’m going to be performing an analysis on the Quality of Life data, provided by Kaggle. This data records information about individual countries and all the different attributes and factors that can affect citizen’s quality of life like pollution, healthcare, cost of living, etc. Each row is a country, and each column is a value or category that describes the country.
Research question
Does the cost of living affect the quality of healthcare in the different countries?
I’m interested in leaning more about if there are any countries that have good healthcare while having a lower cost of living. I went to Thailand this past winter and I ended up in the hospital for an ear infection. I was in an out of the hospital under 30 minutes and the total bill came out to be under $10 and that included my prescription and visit with the doctor. With such a low cost, I questioned if the healthcare is up to par, but it did cure my ear infection.
Answering the Question
To answer the question, I need to look at the relationship between Cost of Living Value and the health care category. The health care category is categorical where it puts countries into different categories (ex. low, moderate, high). The cost of living value is a numeric score for cost of living, so the higher the number the higher the living cost in the country. I will create a box plot and see the median cost of living value where the countries are grouped by their respective health care category.
Analysis
In the high and low category, they both have a wide distribution of cost of living values, however for the high health care category, the median cost of living is a little under 50 is pretty moderate. Looking at the low health care category, it has a lower median cost of living compare to the high health care category. With moderate the distribution is more similar which shows the cost of living is more consistent in that category, and the median cost of living is the same as the low health care category. With very low health care, it also has a very low cost of living score. However, countries that have very high healthcare category, has a huge range, and the median is lower than everyone else. This is probably due to a wide variety of outliers. Overall, countries with better healthcare tend to have a higher cost of living, but the relationship isn’t very strong.
