The Rulebook

Introduction

The following page will explicitly lay out the rules for the RWFDG league as they pertain to scoring, drafting, and general play. Any and all official league decisions and rule changes require at minimum 4 out of 6 support.

Before getting into the details, some definitions to be used throughout these rules:

  • Owners: fantasy Owners participating in this league
  • Players: professional disc golfers participating in PDGA tournaments
  • Roster: all professional disc golf players that are on an Owner’s team for a given tournament
  • Week/Tournament: each event will be considered one week of the overall fantasy schedule
  • Fantasy Points: these are the points earned by each player for your roster, players earn HBH and TP according to the Fantasy Points Scoring section
  • Hole-by-Hole Points: one of the two scoring varieties, abbreviated HBH, these points come from BIRDs, EAGs, BOG, etc.
  • Tourney Points: one of the two scoring varieties, abbreviated TP, these points come from a Player’s final finishing position in the tournament.
  • Regular Season Points: abbreviated RP, these are the points earned by each Owner for his weekly finishing place among the other Owners, these are earned only during the 16 regular season tournaments
  • Regular Season: the first 16 tournaments on the Schedule
  • Playoffs: the final 4 tournaments on the Schedule, two for the semifinals and two for the RWFDG Championship

Drafting and Bench Slots

Snake Draft

Each week/tournament starts with a snake draft where each Owner selects 5 Players for their active roster and 1 additional Player for their bench. By default, you will start the first 5 Players you select on your active roster, but you have the option to swap in your bench player before any of your players start their first rounds. Make this swap by messaging the group and stating your move clearly stating their names without using nicknames or abbreviations.

Owners will redraft before each tournament (i.e. you don’t keep Players on your roster after tournaments end). The draft order will be randomly determined each week. Examples of random draft orders include, but are not limited to, random disc CTPs where one person assigns discs to the thrower (thrower doesn’t know who they are assigned to), in-person events during RWFDG League meet ups, and random number/order generators with supporting video evidence. This supporting video evidence must constitute a screen recording that contains both (i) an initial text to the league saying that your starting the randomization, as well as the (ii) sending of the screenshot of the results of the randomization. This must occur in one continuous video. Each draft’s start time will be chosen at the league’s discretion. Since we are all adults with lives, 3 days is recommended based on historical draft durations.

Drops, Pauses, and Replacements

During the draft, if a Player that has already been picked withdraws from the tournament mid-draft, then the snake draft pauses. Official Player withdrawls are determined by PDGA tournament registration or social media posts. The affected Owner may pick a replacement before the snake draft restarts. The draft then resumes as it was before.

The following paragraph will describe how drops and replacements happen in the event that more than one Owner experiences a drop within same period of time. When the league is notified of the first drop (or potentially several drops), the snake draft enters a pause period where only owners affected by drops can select players. Additional owners can continue to enter the pause period if more drops occur, leading to a situation in which more than one Owner needs to make a replacement pick. If multiple owners are in the pause period at the same time due to drops, they may replace their players on a first come first serve basis, regardless of which dropped player was picked first and regardless of the order in which the drops occurred. Essentially, it is in your best interest to beat your opponent to the replacement pick (Proposition COMPROMISE).

Executing Your Pick

During the draft for all picks except the final pick, if an Owner submits a pick via a sent text or FB messenger message, the pick is not final until the next Owner in the draft selects his Player. This means that the first Owner may change his pick for any reason so long as the next Owner has not submitted an official pick (Proposition TRICKY RICKY).

After the final bench selection of the snake draft, the rules are as follows: once the snake draft is over, Owners may drop and pick up any Players they wish on a first come, first serve basis. You may do this as long as none of the players in question have started their first round. Make your pick and drop by messaging the group and clearly stating their names without using nicknames or abbreviations.

Bench Slots

You cannot swap in a bench player after first round play has started if all players remain in the tournament. You can, however, use your bench player in the following scenarios. Say an Owner has Player A who must withdraw from the tournament, then the bench player (Player B) will be automatically brought up to the active roster for all rounds AFTER the dropped round. Here, “automatically” means that you don’t need to text the group to execute this move. Here are how we will handle the different scenarios where Players withdraw from tournaments:

  1. Player A does not compete at all. In this event, Player B fills Player A’s spot for the remainder of the tournament. The Owner of Player A may select an additional bench player so long as that new player has not started his first round. This scenario is only possible before the first round. You cannot pick up an additional bench player if he has started play for the weekend.

  2. Player A completes at least one full round, and withdraws between rounds. In this event, Player A’s Owner will receive hole-by-hole points for each round Player A completed. Player B will earn hole-by-hole points for the remaining rounds that Player A is unable to complete. Player B will also earn Tourney Finishing Position points.

  3. Player A withdraws during a round. In this event, the results of a partial round by Player A will count towards the Owner’s fantasy score for that round, no matter the reason for withdrawing (Proposition ASSLICK). However, partial rounds are NOT eligible for BFR points. In all remaining rounds (if there are rounds left to be played), the Owner’s bench Player (Player B) is automatically subbed in, and he will earn hole-by-hole points for the remaining rounds. Here, “automatically” means that the Owner does not need to text the group to execute this move. The Owner will also receive TP points for Player B. If this happens while cards are teeing off during Round 1, an Owner may select another Bench Player to fill in for the old Bench Player that was just subbed in provided that the new Bench Player has not started any Round 1 play. It is up to the affected Owner to provide a PDGA Live screenshot including the Owner’s local time proving that no throw tracker has started for the newly selected Bench Player. Any late additions of this variety are not valid without supporting proof in the form of a PDGA Live screenshot. If this happens during the final round, the withdrawing player (Player A) will receive hole-by-hole points for the partial final round, but the Bench player (Player B) will receive TP (just like as above, the only difference being that there is no play left for the bench player to give points for). In this scenario, Player B (the Bench Player) only receives TP and does not count for any hole-by-hole points.

The remainder of this section details how bench slots are used when there is a tournament with a cut. Owners do not get to call up bench Players if one of their starters does not make the cut (rationale: you don’t get bailed out for a poor pick). For this reason, an Owner can have fewer than 5 starters for all post-cut rounds. If a starting Player makes the cut but then withdraws due to injury, then the bench Player can be used for all post-cut rounds (rationale: you get bailed out due to extenuating circumstances).

Additionally, Owners have the option to bench Players after a cut has been made in the tournament. However, an Owner has to still start a minimum number of Players. This minimum will be set as the number of Players that make the cut for the Owner with the fewest number of Players remaining after the cut.

Example:

  • Jason/Sam/Aaron/Colin have 5 make the cut
  • Connor has 4 make the cut
  • Corey has 3 make the cut
  • In this scenario, each Owner must start at least 3 Players.
  • In a modified scenario, if Corey also had 4 Players make the cut and everything else was the same, then each individual Owner must start 4 Players.

Trades

There is no trading draft picks or players at any time.

Fantasy Points Scoring

An Owner’s fantasy score for each week is the sum of his active roster’s Fantasy Points. Players earn fantasy points according to the following two scoring types:

1. Hole-by-hole (HBH) Scoring:

Description Abbrev HBH
Albatross ALB 18
Ace ACE 10
Eagle EAG 8
Bogey Free Round (a.k.a. Beefer) BFR 5
4 birdies in a row BAG4 4
Birdie BIRD 3
Bogey BOG -1
Double bogey or worse DBB -2

2. Tournament Finishing Place (TP) Scoring:

Place TP
1 25
2 20
3 18
4 16
5 14
6 12
7 10
8 9
9 8
10 7
11-15 6
16-20 5
21-25 4
26-30 3
31-40 2
41-50 1

Additional scoring notes:

  • There is a maximum of one BAG4 per round
  • Bogey Free Round points can be earned once per round.
  • Ties in the final tournament standings will be given equal points. For example, if two players tie for 2nd, both will earn their respective Owner’s +20, 4th place gets +16, etc.

Regular Season Points and The Playoffs

Regular Season

Each week of the regular season (i.e. the first 16 tourneys), Owners earn Regular Season Points (RP) based on their finishing place among the other Owners. Owner’s are ranked by their weekly fantasy score, and given RPs according to the following system:

Place RP
1 7
2 5
3 3
4 2
5 1
DFL 0

Regular Season Points are accumulated after each tournament ends. After the 16 regular season tournaments, the 4 Owners with the most Regular Season Points make the Playoffs. If tied in RPs at the end of the season, the first tiebreaker is total regular season fantasy points (HBH + TP). The second tiebreaker is number of individual wins during the regular season, then the number of second place finishes, then third place finishes, etc.

There are no tiebreakers in each regular season tournament. For example, if two Owners tie for second, both will receive +5 points.

Playoffs

The final regular season standings (total RPs) determine seeding for the playoffs matchups: 1 versus 4 and 2 versus 3. The semifinal matchup winners will be determined by total combined Fantasy Points across the 2 semifinal tournaments (Discraft Great Lakes Open, Green Mountain Championship). In the semifinals only, the 1 seed will start with a +10 Fantasy Point advantage over the 4 seed, and the 2 seed will start with a +5 Fantasy Point advantage over the 3 seed.

The winners of the semifinal matchups will meet in the RWFDG Championship. The Champion will be determined by total combined Fantasy Points across the 2 tournaments designated for the Finals (MVP Open, United States Disc Golf Championship). This matchup will start tied: 0-0.

The tie breaker is lowest seed for all head to head playoff matches that end in ties.

The top 4 Owners who made the playoffs are required to participate throughout all 4 tournaments designated for the playoffs to keep the existing matchups valid and competitive.

Scheduling, COVID-19, and Unforeseen Events

If regular season tournaments are canceled for any reason, we will simply ignore that week and have a regular season comprised of fewer than 16 tournaments. If any of the tournaments designated for the playoffs are canceled, we will have a league vote to determine how to handle the situation. All other changes to the schedule will be made at the league’s discretion.

Straight Cash Homie

League dues are $105 = $50 postseason + $55 regular season per person for the 2025 season. Here is what that money funds:

  • Each Owner donates $2.50 for each regular season tournament to create a pot of $15 per regular season tournament. The weekly winner takes $10, and 2nd place gets $5. Regular season ties for first will result in the Owners who tied splitting the $15 evenly. If one Owner gets 1st outright and multiple Owners tie for 2nd, the Owners who tied for second will split the $5 evenly.
  • There are 6 regular season Majors and DGPT+ events (The Open at Austin, PDGA Champions Cup, Northwest Disc Golf Championship, European Disc Golf Festival, Professional Disc Golf World Championships, Discraft’s Ledgestone Open), and these will play for a double pot. The league recognizes and thanks Connor for this addition. The regular season costs are broken down in the following table.
Week Tour Cost Event
1 DGPT $2.50 Discraft Supreme Flight Open
2 DGPT $2.50 Waco Annual Charity Open
3 DGPT + $5.00 The Open at Austin
4 DGPT $2.50 Music City Open
5 DGPT $2.50 43rd Kansas City Wide Open
6 Major $5.00 PDGA Champions Cup
7 DGPT $2.50 Cascade Challenge
8 DGPT + $5.00 Northwest Disc Golf Championship
9 DGPT $2.50 The Preserve Championships
10 DGPT $2.50 Discmania Challenge
11 DGPT $2.50 PCS Open
12 DGPT $2.50 Krokhol Open
13 Major $5.00 European Disc Golf Festival
14 Major $5.00 Professional Disc Golf World Championships
15 DGPT + $5.00 Discraft’s Ledgestone Open
16 DGPT $2.50 LWS Open at Idlewild
Total Cost: $55.00
  • The remaining $50 per person creates a pot of $300 to be distributed in the following way.
    • $30 goes to the Owner with the most RPs in the regular season. The tiebreaker is total fantasy points in the regular season. If, by chance, there is a tie in total fantasy points, this will be a split pot evenly between all who participated in the tie.
    • The remaining $270 will be a 1st/2nd/3rd breakdown of the 180/60/30 variety.
  • All money payouts will happen at the end of the season.
